I can concur that the drum section dragged on and on. It felt like it was done just to check off most of the remaining enemies from the original that hadn't made appearances yet.

Although having said that, I wonder if that was due to having the anticipation from the original of knowing what was coming. One of my colleagues who never played the original loved the drum section.
