    Default The Soundtrack

IMHO the soundtrack for the remake was absolutely top tier, I mean I guess that's easy enough when you have so much good source material to work with - but even the re-arrangements and new compositions are great.

The official soundtrack doesn't come out until next month, but until then we have YouTube and rips from the game:

What tracks did you like the most?

It's hard to pick favourites honestly, as you say it was top tier. I wasn't much of a fan of some of the original stuff particularly in the last chapter or two. It wasn't awful but I couldn't exactly hum it back to you now, and it felt a bit too much like FFXIII.

But some of the arrangements to the old tracks were out of this world, and they were especially good at bringing them in in the perfect moment. For example: (SPOILER)During the Jenova fight, the first phase is... OK, the 2nd phase... all right, this is like the Distant Worlds orchestral version of JENOVA, now we're getting somewhere, 3rd phase AAAAAHHH THEY DID IT THIS IS SUCH A BANGER HOLY SMURF.

Then a few minutes after that Crazy Motorcycle kicks in, which proceeds to transition like 8 times throughout the highway chase incorporating Bombing Mission, Those Who Fight and Those Who Fight Further.

It's a little hard to pick individual favourites as there tended to be so many arrangements of any given theme, but Tifa's Theme, Flowers Blooming in the Church, and one of the Those Who Fight arrangements are way up there.

Oh and LET US NEVER FORGET:

To me, the soundtrack is the best thing about the remake.

The music for the Sector 5 slums is a standout. I think it was a new addition too.

The Old Wall Market theme remix is my second favorite. Too bad it doesn't play in Wall Market anymore. The new music isn't worthy.

Ah yes, the Sector 5 music is an arrangement of Hollow, the game's theme song composed by Uematsu.

I let the game run for a while listening to it. Beautiful stuff.

This track is so simple but I really like it:

I'm listening to it now. Up to Scorpion Sentinel. Liking what I've heard so far.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

The soundtrack is pretty much top to bottom bangers.

Granted, I haven’t played the game yet, but I’m a bit more mixed. While in general it sounds really good, with plenty of solid rearrangements of old tracks and cool new ones (I love you, Hamauzu!), some of the remixes really fall flat for me. There’s an over reliance on strings and the harsh synth feel of the original is removed in a lot of places. By far the biggest travesty on this game’s OST is the victory fanfare. How they managed to take my personal favorite fanfare and turn it into absolute smurfing garbage is beyond me.

I just wanna say I'm not a fan of the jazzed up variations on the jukebox. Hip Hop de Chocobo is the worst chocobo theme I've ever heard, too.

Most of the music in the actual game itself is great.
    Bow before the mighty Javoo!
