While it’s less varied, I actually prefer the gameplay of DQV. All the elements just come together better imo

    Where's the "Neither" option?

Not a fan of the gameplay in either of these two really, but I suppose Suikoden 2 comes out ahead just a bit.

Not even close. Suikoden II is one of my favorite games and, while a good part of that is story and characters, a decent part is the great gameplay. I can't imagine any DQ game having as good gameplay, and DQV doesn't particularly stand out in this category either.

Sweeeeeet I have actually played both these games! What a category to judge them, though. Neither one had 'gameplay' that really stood out, but at least SII was more varied. Although I love the DQ series, they are pretty simple turn based games.

This represents a gross reduction of the "gameplay" of an RPG to its combat, which is part of but certainly not close to all of the gameplay. Unfortunately, Square-Enix have basically made the same mistake for many years now! Talking to NPCs is gameplay. Exploring caves is gameplay. Traversing a world map is gameplay. Exploration matters and is gameplay functionality.

Well in general I always thought separating 'gameplay' out as its own category when talking about a video game was a pretty broad concept to begin with.
