i wouldnt say soul-crushing. but it's very clearly Tye-dus, like the sea. He's literally washed into Besaid on the tide. Tee-dus would only make sense thematically if he fell out of the sky and landed on Wakka's putt-putt golf course.

Regardless of what the VAs did, his name absolutely is Tye-dus.
