So, we all know it will come in one way or another.
Knights of Round was the start of the Final Fantasy "super hidden and powerful" summons.
Like Crusader in Final Fantasy VI it was locked behind some more complicated conditions except it was astronomically stronger.
Knights of Round other than Crusader, Eden, Arc, Anima and Magus Sisters had no slightest lore/story nod.
Eden while not really being explained in FFVIII at all looks suspiciously like a Garden and is in a game that is about Facilities called "Gardens," being a nod to the Sacred Garden Eden.
Crusader is the war between Zurvan, Sophia and Sephirot (Poltergeist, Goddess and Doom Gaze).
Arc is the guardian to the stone in Oeil Vert.
Anima is Seymour's mother just like Magus Sisters a summon which as we all know in FFX has heavy lore ties.
Knights of Round is cool but a joke.
Since then they have been repurposed.
They were the Heavensward in FFXIV
and the Lucian Kings in Final Fantasy XV.
In FFXV they killed Diamond WEAPON and helped Noctis to finally finish off Ardyn.
One thing is clear: We will fight them because we have been able to fight al summons in the Remake so far.
And I am fairly certain that they will have a story inclusion to handle the WEAPONs to be a nod to how people beat Ruby and Emerald WEAPON in the original game all the time - also considering they did that in Kingsglaive with them fighting Diamond WEAPON I think it is a given.
But who will they be?
TWill they go for the Lucian Kings with Arthur now being Thordan or Regis?
I think if they do not want to go too far away from FFVII itself they Knights of Round will be the final 13 Cetra warriors and sorcerers that beat JENOVA. It would give them a lore reason for why they are so powerful and can beat even WEAPONs considering WEAPONs were created by the Planet as a means to protect itself from JENOVA.
In Rebirth we have seen that even Sephiroth has an issue with one-shotting a WEAPON when Masamune got stock in its skin and he had to push the blade even further (I hate that but it is what it is). The last line of the Cetra would make actual story sense.
