    Get any file in Windows Explorer, right click, open with, Choose Program, Notepad. Make sure the file isn't large in size - ie, not an mp3 etc. Pictures and small .wav files make interesting results.

    I'm still confused. What about ini's they still work in notepad and there system files?

    I don't recognise what file format that could be - I guess it could be compressed stuff which the browser didn't decompress when receiving, seeing as EoFF forums send the pages in compressed format to you

    My guess is that this forum is using gzip compression. Basically, eoff webserver compresses the html webpage before it sends it to your computer.

    Your web browser is probably having problems decompressing the page, or maybe it doesn't even handle compressed pages. The other possibility is that the eoff webserver is not sending the correct mime type for the compressed file.

    Talk to one of the admins. And make sure you have a fully updated browser (such as Internet Explorer 5 or 6)
