Some might think a quick reply box would encourage spam. Why? Well, if they took out post counts because of it, I wouldn't think that anyone would even think about getting a quick reply box.

I like the Quick Reply function. I have it on my board, and I don't think it increased spam (unless you mean that more posting is equivalent to more spam).

Hacks aren't bad if they're well designed, and I'm sure there's a really good/ well tested Quick Reply hack for vbb.

I command everyone to start linking pictures from http://www.quickreply.com post articles from there, banners, limericks, whatever you can find, and message BoB with such things so I can see his reaction.

It's a pretty much unnecesary hack, and I still remember the days when Acmlm hacked the living excrement out of the board until Sean wiped everything clean and installed a no-hack vBulletin. Speed increased 100% overnight.

EoFF is fast enough for me, 'cause I'm on cable--but we also have to look out for the 56kers out there, and for that reason, I'm reluctant to hack the board without a significant gain from it.

As for promoting spam, I don't think it really would. Without the quick reply box, a reply is still only one more mouse-click away. If people are determined to spam, they'll take that click.

'cept Quick Reply doesn't require a hack; you can get away with merely a modification of the showthread template.

The only downside of this implementation is that it'll show up regardless of whether you're logged in, but it doesn't require a hack, so I likes it.

I don't think it would encourage that much spam, either, but seeing as post counts are disabled because they cause spam, I just thought everyone would think that Quick Reply would make it easier for everyone to spam...
