    Wouldn't that require a hack?

    Some might think a quick reply box would encourage spam. Why? Well, if they took out post counts because of it, I wouldn't think that anyone would even think about getting a quick reply box.

    I like the Quick Reply function. I have it on my board, and I don't think it increased spam (unless you mean that more posting is equivalent to more spam).

    Hacks aren't bad if they're well designed, and I'm sure there's a really good/ well tested Quick Reply hack for vbb.

    Quick Reply stuff scares me. I think that's just a personal thing. I have a severe phobia of them.

    No, really.

    No, really.
    I command everyone to start linking pictures from http://www.quickreply.com post articles from there, banners, limericks, whatever you can find, and message BoB with such things so I can see his reaction.

    It's a pretty much unnecesary hack, and I still remember the days when Acmlm hacked the living excrement out of the board until Sean wiped everything clean and installed a no-hack vBulletin. Speed increased 100% overnight.

    EoFF is fast enough for me, 'cause I'm on cable--but we also have to look out for the 56kers out there, and for that reason, I'm reluctant to hack the board without a significant gain from it.

    As for promoting spam, I don't think it really would. Without the quick reply box, a reply is still only one more mouse-click away. If people are determined to spam, they'll take that click.

    'cept Quick Reply doesn't require a hack; you can get away with merely a modification of the showthread template.

    <!-- quick reply -->
    <table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 width=100%><tr><td width="10"><img width="10" height="1" src="images/space.gif" alt=""></td><td>
    <form $enctype action="newreply.php" name="vbform" method="post" onSubmit="true">
    <input type="hidden" name="s" value="$session[sessionhash]">
    <input type="hidden" name="action" value="postreply">
    <input type="hidden" name="threadid" value="$threadid">

    <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" bgcolor="#000000" width="100%" align="center"><tr><td>
    <table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%">

    <tr>
    <td colspan=2 bgcolor=#012033 id=cat><normalfont><b>Quick Reply</B></normalfont></td>
    </tr><tr>
    <td width="18%" bgcolor="#012033" valign="top"><normalfont><b>Message:</b></normalfont>
    <smallfont>
    </smallfont>
    </td>
    <td width="82%" bgcolor="#012033">
    <textarea name="message" rows="10" cols="70" wrap="virtual" tabindex="2">$message</textarea>
    </td>
    </tr>

    $logincode

    <tr>
    <td bgcolor="#012033" width="18%"><normalfont><b>Subject:</b></normalfont><smallfont> (Optional)</smallfont></td>
    <td bgcolor="#012033" width="82%"><normalfont><input type="text" class="bginput" name="title" value="$title" size="40" maxlength="85" tabindex="1">
    <SELECT name=iconid>
    <option selected value=0>No icon</option>
    <option value=1>Text</option>
    <option value=2>Arrow</option>
    <option value=3>Lightbulb</option>
    <option value=4>Exclamation</option>
    <option value=5>Question</option>
    <option value=6>Cool</option>
    <option value=7>Smile</option>
    <option value=8>Angry</option>
    <option value=9>Unhappy</option>
    <option value=10>Talking</option>
    <option value=11>Red face</option>
    <option value=12>Wink</option>
    <option value=13>Thumbs down</option>
    <option value=14>Thumbs up</option>
    </SELECT>
    <input type="submit" class="bginput" value="Submit Reply" accesskey="s" tabindex="3"></normalfont>
    <input type="hidden" name="signature" value="yes" checked></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </td></tr></table>
    </form>
    </td><td width="10"><img width="10" height="1" src="images/space.gif" alt=""></td></tr></table>
    The only downside of this implementation is that it'll show up regardless of whether you're logged in, but it doesn't require a hack, so I likes it.

    This is pretty much what it results in, BooB.

    Sorry for the double-post, but this post was made with the above quick reply box. Yesh.

    I don't think it would encourage that much spam, either, but seeing as post counts are disabled because they cause spam, I just thought everyone would think that Quick Reply would make it easier for everyone to spam...
