    Default NESTICLE commands

Geez, I hope I have this in the right place. It is the "Help Forum", after all. . .

Anyway, I've had the NESTICLE emulator for a little while now, but I'm thinkin' I'm not getting as much out of it as I could be. For one, the sound is . . . well, it sounds weird, and I don't know how to go about making it sound normal.

For two, I can't seem to save game states. It says it's able to, but whenever I try to save in the middle of a game, it says it can't find some file. I say "Huh?" because I have no idea what that means.

For three, I can't figure out how to save screenshots, either. I want to, but I don't know how to fix that.

So yeah, if all y'all could help me out, it'd be appreciated.

I can only help with the printscreening, is the problem that it takes up the whole screen? I believe if you press alt+enter it *might* make it smaller so you can print screen (though I've only tried it with RPGM2K).

I will do this. Nothing in my life matters except this. No moment in my life exists except this moment. I am born in this moment, and if I fail, I will die in this moment.

Maybe you should get a better emulator, Nesticle isn't very good. In one of the menus there's an option called GUI Keys or something tells you what all the keys do though. Savestate, loadstate and printscreen keys are all F keys. F5, F7, F12 maybe. Nesticle saves screens in .psx format last I checked, which is terrible.

F5 to save and F7 to restore; I remember that because NESTICLE and the old Sierra AGI and SCI games that I grew up on used the same convention. *nod to Unne*

F9 to take a screen cap, though.

Yeah, it does take up the entire screen. When I try to save a screenshot, the program just quits on me completely. I'm guessing that's not a good thing.

Yeah, it means that your computer has been posessed by Nait. Consult a specialist immediately.

Unne, you say that NESTICLE isn't a good emulator, what would you recommend?

A Windows emulator, if you use Windows. http://www.zophar.net Take your pick. The reviews given there are fairly accurate. NNNesterJ is what I use, because the color pallete is the most accurate as far as I can tell. Computers are fast enough now that Windows emulators can run NES emulators way, way faster than they need to. I think the only reason Nesticle was so popular for so long was because it was DOS-based and didn't use a ton of resources, and that it had pretty good feature support. But Nesticle's sound / music are not at all accurate in many cases, and some graphics are still messed up in Nesticle. I base most of my opinions on FF1, since that's the game I played most, but anyways.

That's not a half bad idea. . . how's the sound with what you use? It can't be any worse than NESTICLE.

The sound in NNNesterJ is as good as what I remember from the NES. Sound effects actually work too. In Nesticle FF1 menus make a hideous sound like "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE". NNNesterJ makes a much more accurate "...bbbbbbBeBeBeBEBEBEBEBEBEBE ....BEBEBEBEBebebeBbebbbbbb..."

I like NESten, but I've never tried NNNesterJ.
