Assuming you're using a version of Windows, you can only do this is you have Windows XP.
Works with 98 as long as you have IE 5/5.5/6 with the desktop enhancement. The few icons that are left can be hidden with TweakUI.

Now, which part of the taskbar to you want to put them on? The quicklaunch bar, which would seem the most logical. You should be able to drag all of your program and folder icons, onto it, but to hide the My Computer and Recycle Bin-esque icons you'll need to download TweakUI. You can follow my previous directions for that.
there are some icons in my desktop I can't remove, it says if I delete the icon I can't restore it from the recycle bin. The only icons I could remove from my desktop are the network places and recycle bin. Some items are not recommended that I delete them. How can I successfully drag them below without the computer asking me to make shortcuts instead?

I suggest you make shortcuts to them on your taskbar, and use TweakUI to hide the actual folders.
how am I suppose to hide them? right click then properties? Some icons doesn't have that. And the icons on the tweak UI are recycle bin and network places are the only ones in the desktop tab, I suppose its the desktop tab where I can hide them, right? What about icons like my computer and some extra icons where I can't hide.
