O_o Why would they become Squall or Onion Kid, and at what point in the game?

Although yes, Squall/Onion Kid on the title load/save screen does exist. If you're feeling less lazy than me, you could use Search to find the older threads talking about this, which I think include pictures too of the sprite maps from the game etc.
