    Default Sector 8 Tunnel

A few years ago I discovered, when you (SPOILER)re-enter Midgar, in the Sector 8 slums, after you enter the tunnel with the train tracks, if you got all the way back to the 'start' of the tunnel, there is a door. If you try to enter this door, Shinra soldiers come running out, and you have to fight them. I did this over and over for about two hours, before I gave up, does anyone know what this door is?

Are you talking about when you have to (SPOILER)jump off the train because of the ID checkmark in disc 1? I'm pretty sure this is what you are referring to because (SPOILER)when you go there in disc 3, I don't think the door is there. Basically, it's a chance for you to level up your characters. As far as I know, there is no way to go through that door after jumping off the train. I wonder if there's ever been some sort of rumor involving that door......like if you kill 200 soldiers from there, you can get some ultimate weapon or something.....d'oh well......just thinking out loud.

Yeah, it's just endless enemies, and it's near the beginning of the game, not the end. Backtracking in the tunnels during the second trip will lead you to the W-Item materia, not a door.

Nope, this is definitely at the end of disc 2, Sector 8, not 5, and it's definitely there in disc 2.
    It's a fair way past W-Item.

You're not supposed to go past W-Item.

W-item's at the very end of the corridor... unless there's a way to get into one of those numerous 'branching' tunnels, but I've never seen or heard anything about that.

xD Regardless of where this door is, moreso, what's it for? I can't get through it, I tried again, out of sheer boredom, couldn't get through it.

If you push 'select' and a pointy red arrow doesn't appear above the door, then odds are that you can't go through it.

Yeah, I found that for the first time my last time going through the game, and I've played the game many times.
