This isn't meant to sound like I wanna cause trouble, or particularly want to be able to swear... But what's wrong with FCUK? It's paraded around in public places all the time, even in an obviously swearing context. Hell I've seen teachers wearing those tops. I vaguely understanding banning swearing, but seriously.

Don't worry about it, ed. It's not like you're actually in trouble or anything. I don't know why there's a swear filter anyway except that Unne decided one day that he'd rather see skulls everywhere then the 'F' word. Everyone is free to argue against having a swear filter at all, but actually swearing is still a good way to get on Shlup Clause's naughty list.

I've only got the same thing to say again that has been said before many times. If you want to swear and write tasteless posts, etc., find a board that allows that sort of thing.
It seemed to go away for awhile, but little by little I see more and more skulls and asterisks creeping into posts. One or two here and there where warranted is one thing, but it's slowly starting in settle into the regualar conversations again, so I guess I will be editting more often. I've managed to post here for almost two years without ever using the f-word once myself, so it's really not all that difficult.

I found that editing posts is not only a waste of time for the person doing the editing, but also that no one cares at all and will keep right on doing whatever they want. That's why the filter is there, I got sick of editing everything in sight. I still feel that the only reason EoFF isn't totally overrun with the level of stupidity that pervades the rest of the internet / world is that we keep most of the morons out by putting up restrictions. If you want to throw open the floodgates go right ahead, it's none of my business any more. I'm just assuming that since the rule is still in place and hasn't been gotten rid of yet, that you might actually care about enforcing it. If you want to keep the rule and just not enforce it, none of my business either. If you want to get rid of the rule, go ahead.
I'm just giving people the opportunity to refute it. I would hope that there aren't enough people here who think swearing doesn't make them sound ignorant for anything to actually come of it.
I haven't said the f-bomb, or any abbreviated word similar to it once since I registered, and if I can do it I mean almost anyone can. Not that I see the real point of swearing just words thats all they are. I do try to be on my best behavior while posting though.
If I get heated up (it could happen, ya never know), there will be a few skulls. Sometimes I say "ing" because I think it's hilarious. Gonna go

I would also like to say that swearing only makes you sound ignorant if you use it like BOU seems to have used it...but I say that mainly looks bad because of the Skulls. Swearing usually just makes you look uncreative...which I am not. I just choose to put something not quite as graphic and horrifing down instead. Most of the time it is just sayings like.

We view most swearing as, at best, a shibboleth for the imagination impoverished; the english language is chock full of fun words that ain’t covered by the language filter.
However, if parents know that a kid will encounter such content at this website, they will prohibit the kid from coming, which is a shame.
Another good reason to have censorship.
It's the whole 'Better to be safe than sorry' crap.
Because in almost all cases, it's a blatant attempt to circumvent the filter, and in the end, it clicks as having the same meaning and connotations anyway, so has the same effect as the f word anyway to many people who get offended by that - why else would you want to be using it so often anyway?
