That is what the skulls do also. People will associate with the f word because that is appearntly how you spell it here at EoFF. You just changed the way it looks but it carries the same exact meaning. That is why it makes no sense to even have the filter...unless you have a big list of 300 or so phrases you can replace the fword with.

    Instead of "You ing asshole"

it could be "You super happy funny asshole"

and it would randomize which one it picks...then it would be cool and stuff...although it might encourge people like me to use the word more because it would be funny.

Letting the words appear as-is sends the message "Hey, the administration here doesn't care about swearing, so you can go right ahead". Censoring it sends the message "Hey, it must be turning into a row of skulls for SOME reason, maybe you should respect the fact that they must not want you to use that word and stop using it". Whether people get the message or abide by it is another matter.

Everytime I see the skulls though I have to count them to see if maybe it's only saying , and changing it to some funny random saying probably would encourage people like you, ed, to just say it more , just for the entertainment aspect of it. Heck I might even say it just to see what it would come up with.

Oh well, I don't like to see it in general conversation and Rule #2 states that I will be angry if people try to get around the censor and overuse profanity. So, I guess I'll have to start warning people if they start to abuse rule #2. Rules are rules you know.

It's amazing how fast you could work around that sentence, though.

    asshole = legend

And then suddenly, it's a good thing.

But personally, I don't see what's wrong with fcuk if it's not used in an offensive manner. To me, the word 'trout' is just as bad as the word 'crap', too. Someone can call it what they like, it's the same thing. I also think the same for fcuk. If someone says 'what the hell are you talking about?' it's just like 'what the fcuk are you talking about?'... different sentence, same meaning. HOWEVER, if people say 'shut the fcuk up' then that's an attack, and they should get a warning. The could say 'shut the hell up', and I'd give them the same warning.

But to be honest, I do see how some people can get offended purely by the word, and I choose to respect that. Because I know I can say 'crap' and 'hell' if for some reason the way something is said (rather than the meaning behind it) affects someone mentally or emotionally. =P *shrugs* I'm known to have weird pet-hates, too, eh?

The words shouldn't be important... it's the intentions behind them. I don't think there's any harm in the occasional "", really. It's just a word...

Words are all we have here. By BoB's logic I can say 'I'd prefer it if you refrained from speaking' and would still get a warning. What I'm trying to say is that different people find different things offensive. F is generally the most offensive to the most people, so why even try to deal with it? If the word 'anyway' offended a great deal of people, I would stop using it here, though it's one I use frequently. The English language is so vast that there will always be a number of ways to fully express yourself. 'Hell' and 'crap' aren't considered as offensive by the majority, so they aren't banned here.

Yeah but if you just want to ban the word then it has nothing to do with meaning. I'm just guessing, but I reckon less people are offended by those four letters in that order (meaning irrelevant) than those who dislike having their freedom of speech restricted in such a manner.
I don't think I've ever said it on here, but I don't think it should be banned as long as the context is ok. FCUK definately shouldn't be.

I say what I think. If you disagree, then that is up to you.

Uhm, swearing is still not okay. It's not going to be okay either. We've heard all these arguments before, and they're all true to an extent. Yes, the F-word is a word, but it's a word that closes me off to anything else you have to say. If you don't care enough to describe how you feel without swearing, then it must not be important enough for me to listen to. Swearing makes you sound ignorant, and the staff and members here have the right to curb ignorance away from our message board.

In anycase, we can talk about the pros and cons of uncensoring the F-word all we want, but something tells me it would take some profound revilations to get the F-word uncensored.

In my expericence with people who are cool with swearing the F word is usually the one they except the most and :bou::bou::bou::bou: is the one they are weary of using...most girls I know(bar a few) really hate that word for some reason. I mean they HATE it...its not a problem though as it isn't a very practical word.

Hey Shlup...why does swearing make someone ignorant? Sounds pretty ignorant to me to make that kind of an assumtion about someones intellegence based on a few words they use. Its also just what you think of people who swear which is entirely objective...or is that subjective...I am going to go with objectivly subjective...yeah. That sounds good.

    Default Whoops!!!

I said "funk" one time. Didn't mean anything by it. Sorry, didn't realize that this was frowned upon. I'll just... well, I'll shut up now.
