Weird thing in FF1

I took this picture in the waterfall cave. Note the bat at the bottom of it. Have you seen this? Is it a bug? Or maybe intentional?

Anyway, to put this thread back on its topic, I imagine that it's poor programming, as FFI is full of programming errors. They probably miscalculated the range of where the bat can move and now we have a bat that can fly through walls.
