Yes it is, well it'll probally end in like 10 or so years depending if Square keep's getting ther money needed to maintain the servers and pay the programmers and game mods. But the game is supposed to never end. Currently their working on a new storyline for after you beat the current one, and add in a new ultimate final boss.

I doubt that in... 4 or 5 months they're going to add three more stories when they've not even got the second one in yet. I'm going to assume you didn't hear the news from E3.

Yes its neverending, that is the reason folks like online games. FFXI will have final bosses at certain levels like 55 and higher. There will be Cinematic movies in game at certain points to excite folks. But you can continue on in game. And once you are so high up you can enjoy world conquering monsters and getting requests from newbies to have you as a bodyguard.
