Oh yeah, forgot about that. I'd expect decent ISPs to at least block those ports for you anyway - I firewall off all my Windows sharing ports etc. anyway from the internet connection (not the LAN connection) so wouldn't get those anyway even if someone tried to send them to my IP. Yeah, turn it off if you have to then, though I'd still prefer the firewall method.

Firewalls slow down the whole bloody internet to sub-56k speeds for me, though. Not gonna do it.

Plus, it makes me use a passive connection on DC++, and I <3 my active connection and its porn anime-leeching powaa.

Your firewall sucks, both in terms of CPU utilisation and configuration, I still get decent speeds on the internet (6 MB/s+ when at uni to places across the Atlantic), and I see no ntcable CPU hit by hit at all And I run most filesharing stuff in active mode, including DC++

If you're in Windows, I'd recommend Tiny Personal Firewall 2 (not any newer versions, they're rather bad) - ZoneAlarm is for beginners only really and isn't really customisable enough.

    I like my BlackIce <3
And it doesn't slow my connection down, I still managed to get 60+ kb/s on a single source for a mandrake 9.1 iso

I don't use ad-aware to block pop-ups, but to clean the spyware. I use my hosts file to block pop-ups, and it works fine.

    Edit : Mandrake 9.1, not 8.1.

BlackIce was supposed to have hidden nasties in it, last I heard about that one. I might have to go look it up again though.

It is called Windows Messenger. That's what it's labeled as under "Services". The IM program is MSN Messenger. I'd always get porn spam on Windows Messenger when I was playing a game online. I disabled it and I haven't had trouble with it since.

EDIT: Actually, you're right. Never mind me and my forgetfulness.

I use Sygate Personal Firewall. Doesn't slow me down. I usually get 200k/s speed dl with it on.
