ff IX storyline (baically Zidane's) is very similar to Dragon Ball, see:
DB: Goku, a kid (with TAIL) from another planet was sent to earth to conquer the planet, then he hit his head (when he was a baby) and actually forget about his original purpose and become a good guy...
i just realized that... Zidane's basic plot is basically exacly like DB's Goku!!!
Most of the elements of FFIX's plot are similar to other FFs, which in drew inspiration from other mythology, science fiction and fantasy.
Truly original literature is very rare, however, that doesn't cheapen the stories which aren't wholly unique, in my opinion.
Well, considering DBZ itself borrowed ideas from a classic Asian legend, I'm not surprised there's other stories that seem very similar.
The idea of a monkey-tailed protagonist is a lot like the legend called "The Monkey King," or, "A Journey to the West." In that story, the monkey king is pretty much a trickster, someone who always defies authority.
Turning the fantasy into SOME sort of reality... o_O
