If they spent the time in the beta to get their character to 40 it makes sense for them to keep them because other people who got the beta stopped after about a week because they knew they didnt get to keep their characters. I think it's a way of rewarding people who kept playing and doing their job, play the beta to make sure it runs smoothly/find bugs.

Why not just take that time you would've spent trying to reach some lvl and do something with your life... like I did *stabs all*
In the end what does playing final fantasy get you... a lighter wallet... slight enjoyment for a short period of time while playing it... added stress and frustration... wow... what a deal
A few years from now the time spent playing FFXI will seem wasted... empty...
You could've spent that time improving yourself, helping others who need it by getting involved in activism, developing some form of creativity through writing, painting, playing an instrument, etc.
Yes that's right, this hard core gamer boy, with that in your face attitude has now become an anti-video game, creative activist man. So if you'll excuse me I'm going to go play my guitar for another few hours...

Barely sounds like Taerdin...but whatever. I think that you're just thinking too much of videogames right now. They're only a form of recreation, like going to a movie or watching TV. Those things wont stop you from helping and what not unless you let them.

True, but time spent in so called "recreation" could be used for a greater more fufilling purpose. Spending 80 hours to reach lvl 20 in a game is hardly as good in life as doing 80 hours of community service, or 80 hours of studying, or even 80 hours of reading for that matter.Originally posted by Alpha

I've been an activist for about a year now, it's only now that I'm getting more involved...
The reason for this? I have more time to do the things I truly enjoy now that I don't play video games!
