FF6... The whole soundtrack is amazing.

And the character's themes are great, not only fitting each character, but adding something to them... It's kinda hard to explain but that's how it works

Final Fantasy VIII really has some great music. Really touching and "Eyes on Me" at the end. Libiral Fitalli(sp?) is the best song.

    Agreed.

[bigspoiler=Final Fantasy VI]The first time I played through it, Cid died because I didn't know you could save him. When Celes' theme played during that part, it was very moving and it was so sad. The theme was perfect for that part. Also, during the beginning when you see Terra, Biggs, and Wedge's magitek mechs walking in the snow, the theme really provided a strong sense of mystery and... uh... coldness. I don't know, I found the music very fitting for many of the scenes in FFVI.[/bigspoiler]

And in terms of orchestrated/choir goodness, I think Final Fantasy VIII was great with Liberi Fatali and Waltz for the Moon.

Anyway, it's tough. I actually have to go with Seven over Six once again..... but, as always, it's so damned close.

Well, I can really only choose from three options: IV, VI, and VII.

It's a very very VERY tough call, but I'm going to take IV.

I'll say FFVI. 14 characters... 14 fantastic themes. There is not one song in that game that was not good. I honestly believe that the music made the game. Each song just fit so well... it had perfect chemistry. I don't know if any game will ever be able to match the greatness of FFVI, musically or otherwise. When the game came out, I loved turning up the volume on my stereo and playing through the game. It was pure gold.

Well, I'd say pound for pound FFV is the best in my eyes (Gilgamesh theme... *drool*) Though my personal fave is FF6. That soundtrack has enough moving moments to edge out FFV.

I'm also tempted to say FF1, for nostalgia factor (I played FF1 YEARS before I played any other FF.) But that is kinda weird, isn't it.

Actually, no, that's not weird. FF1 features Uematsu in all of his simplistic, 8-bit warts and all glory. You get something from the NES FF's that is too washed away by all the orchestration in the later ones.

I vote VI, with IX as a close second. I really dig the orchestral and kind of medieval themed soundtracks.

VII. It was the first FF game I ever played, and the music really impressed and touched me.

It's just a shame it was all synthesized. But, we're getting a VII piano collection, so I shouldn't complain.

Every FF has one track in particular that steals the show. I think of all of them One Winged Angel stands out the most. Sadly, FF7 was a one hit wonder in terms of soundtrack pieces in my oppinion - the rest don't carry the game. Track for track, the choice for best overall soundtrack is a close competition between 4 and 6. More memorable tunes come from those two games than the other FF's together, and they form the brunt of most piano/orchestral/vocal compilation pieces. There must be a reason. I think I'll vote FF6 because not only was the soundtrack as memorable as 4's, but the opera was one of the more ambitious things a videogame has tried to do.
    Knock yourselves down.
