Thread: Wiegraf!!!!

    Angry Wiegraf!!!!

I'm playing fft for the first time thru, and now that i hit the 1 on 1 wiegraf battle / Velius battle I am totally stuck. I can't buy supplies as I accidentally saved over my main file, and I can't seem to kill Velius, even though my summoner hit him with lich and my 3 lancer/nijas jumped on him, and I shot him a few times with Ramza, he just keeps on coming!!!! Ramza is on lev. 26 and the rest of my party is about there, I have even tried the JP scroll glitch, but can't seem to beat him. Ramza doesn't have accumulate, so that strat. doesn't work, any suggestions?

You can try to keep your people spread out to avoid multiple people getting hit by the summon and away from velius. If i remember correctly, you fight Wiegraf first then Velius. If that's the case then you could try to break his equipment and build up your characters with yell or talk skills. Another thing you could try is to afflict your characters with "Innocent" status using talk skills and that should make them immune to his Cyclops summon. If they're all innocent then you could play keep away while jumping and throwing things at him until he dies. Good idea about keeping ramza with a gun though, you definately need to keep him away from Velius. Hopelfully that will be at least a little bit helpful.

Jeepers, haven't played this one in forever. Try the yell(I believe) that builds up speed. Do it until you get multiple turns, then wax his ass.

Try GameFAQs, they even have a message board.

Unfortunately, what Atma Weapon suggested--Attempting to break his armor, won't work, because Wiegraf has the Maintenace reaction ability, so that no break techniques will work, period.

The best thing I can suggest is to just stay away as far as possible and use all the techniques from long range. If you can't do it on your own, try putting everyone on auto-battle, with the Run AI.

haha classic. I think its about time that a game makes a boss as hard as Velius. We need more Velius's in games out there.

Does Elidibs mean anything to you? More Veliuses my...
anyway, Yell until yo get full 50 speed and try stealing his equiqment. Your stealing percentage depends on your speed, so try that, plus you get tons of kick stuff. Weigraf can only use Earth Slice or whatever, the Monk ability as a long range attack. Best way to "kill" off the deadly Lightning Stab. Your speed should be 50 when you steal and kill Weigraf, so take your time to beat up Velius with your 4-7 turns. Sux to be Velius if you kill him before he even charges. Of course I killed him without Yell or Accumulate, so you can just pray you have Steal abilities. Good luck.

Build up your speed real high, and then keep using jump on velius, or use double sword. You should build up your speed while fighting weigraf and keep fleeing, and once it's like 50, keep using accumulate even though you don't have it. But jump is very good against him too

Any magic users that have Holy and Flare will help out greatly. Also, if you have anybody with Short Charge you can get a lot of the spells off quickly before Velious can really mess with your party. And as was mentioned before, keep you party spaced out!

I used Ramza as a Monk (Earth Slash).
I remember using a Lancer (Jump), and a Dancer (slowing down the enemies). Agrias was a great help too...

    Default My Strategy

I haven't read the other replies so I dont know if someone else already have said this.

Before the Velius Battle I always have Ramza as Lancer
with enough JPs to jump 5 tiles. I use 'Item' as second
abilty and 'Auto Potion' as triggered ability. (make sure you have learned X-potion and not have any normal or high potions in stock, just X-potions.

With one of the other characters, I've learned 'Demi2'
    from the 'Time Mage' job.
Make sure you have 'Sprint Shoes' on the character who knows Demi2 and place him/her next to Ramza in the setup. My Demi2 usually takes around 500 damage on Velius, you gotta be lucky, though, because it's not always 100% to success, normally it's around 65%.

Wizard job spell 'Flare' is also an alternative, but I strongly suggest Demi2+Sprintshoes+Ramza as Lancer.

    good luck!

No, it doesn't. You'll have no trouble with Wiegraf if you apply these two abilities: Yell and auto-potion. Clear everything but X-Potions from your inventory, and with Auto-Potion active Ramza'll heal himself pretty solidly after every attack. When the battles starts, yell yourself up to a good number of consecutive turns - six or seven, perhaps. It'll take a while, and you'll have to break off from this every so often to use extra potions; Wiegraf can do some serious damage. Once you have a solid turn buildup, knock Wiegraf down. He'll transform, but - this is where yell does its work - you'll have about seven turns to the enemies' one. Keep the other monsters (what are they, Ultima Demons?) busy with your own troops, but Velius should fall to Ramza alone in a mere few turn cycles.

i can't remember what class i'd put Ramza in for this battle, but my guess would be Squire - for the 'yell' ability. Once i realized that Ramza's 'squire' class is actually more powerful than the generic version, i kept him there for the rest of the game.

If you aren't stacked on X-Potions - or don't have auto-potion - i'm not really sure what to tell you. If none of the other recommendations in this thread work, it looks like you're in for a restart. This is a pretty common restart point in the game, as more often than not people will overwrite their worldmap save and then get stuck on this very battle. So... i guess you can take a bit of solace in the fact that you're hardly the first one with this problem, i suppose.

Gregory is a bloody Fool and Also.....Elidibs WAS FREAKING EASY YOU MORONIC NUMBSKULL!!!!

By the time your at Elidibs the only hard part is avoiding killing him long enough to let your summoners learn Zodiac....

My personal Record is 4 summoners learned Zodiac in that Fight.....EASY if your not learning Zodiac....

Anyways......Velias is truly an All out BadAss of the Video Game Villian World.....

We do need more Velias' and less Gregory's......

Try re-Starting the Game.....This Time Make Sure you Always have A back-up Save A few Dots Behind The Other....So if you Mess up....You can Quickly redo A dot or 2 and Catch up.....

I couldn't put it in a better way... I was expecting one hell of a fight, and it was so easy I could even play the poor guy. And I wasn't even so high lvled. (My team was in lvl 62-64).

Ok, I was in nearly the same situation just last night (my first time thru this game), and I was level 28 with Ramza. I barely scraped out of the battle...

    Lancer lvl 8
    Charge w/ 5
    Hamedo
    Two Hands
    Teleport

Yeah, I took out Wiegraf in one hit, and then the next battle, I had a chemist, summoner, archer, and ninja. Basically, I kept Ramza alive w/ chemist and got off an attack with my archer and ninja, and my summoner did Titan (I couldn't do Lich due to the time it took), Luckily, instaed of starting with Clops, Velius did attack on Ramza, and got Hamedoed That was the key, the extra 250 damage right there. I also avoided the archdemons attacks by Jumping onto Velius once, that was good. Ending the battle, everyone was dead except Ramza who went and killed Velius.

BTW this was my 10th try, this took a lot of planning and good arrangement of my dudes and what I had with me. This was definately the hardest in the game for me yet, and so, just try your hardest to come up with a balanced party that can live long enough to get all their attacks in on Velius and make sure Ramza lives, he will be doing the most damage. Don't touch the demons, go all out on Velius.
