Just like "I think Shlup's stupid" and "I think Shlup's grammar is atrocious" are two completely different things. It's called respect.
Really, think about it as a matter of efficiency. Saying "omg ur stupid" doesn't prove anything. But you can say why you think they're stupid a lot quicker and easier if you skip the insults.
