Norwegian black metal is somewhat mainstream in black metal mind you =P

By the way, there's a Swedish "ambient" band/musician that goes under the name "Sephiroth". Yes, I'm aware that it's not an original name from the game but most people probably connect it to the game character anyway.

There are many bands with names that appear in Final Fantasy. Of course they were not chosen because of Final Fantasy, but for their history/meaning.
    Examples:
    Ragnarok
    Behemoth
    Tiamat

Behemoth is from Christian mythology, Tiamat is from Babylonian mythology, and Ragnarök is from Norse mythology. Incidentally.

In the Old Testament Behemoth is the name of a very large animal. It is about the size of a hippopotamus or rhinoceros. Later on it is associated with Satan.

Tiamat is a female dragon that believed to be the primordial mother of all creatures including the Babylonian gods.

most names from final fantasy games are based in mythologyor other sources. Square has rarely made up names for their games.

That is part of the reason why I like their games so much. They didn't just throw in some random crap and call it an RPG. They knew what they were doing when they chose the names.
