Gogo and Umaro are called "the optional Characters" because you don't have to have them so they were left out the book because of this but Surly Shadow and Mog are Optinal to so how come they appear in the book?!

Shadow and Mog are not optional since they join you anyway.
Mog is one of the Moogles that help Locke save Terra in the mines of Narshe
Shadow joins you after the meeting with Gestahl, when Terra and Locke are going to Thamasa.
In the other hand, almost all characters are optional in the WOR. The only ones you need are Celes, Edgar and Setzer.
I've seen the future, brother. It is murder.
Why? What's So Special about Celes Edgar and Setzer
When you play in the WOR, you start with Celes, You have to meet up with Edgar to get Figaro running so that you can get to Kohlington, and you have to meet up with Setzer so that you can get the airship and jump to Kefka's Tower. So you have to have those three people at a minimum to beat the game.
What Outsider is saying is that in playing through the game, you will have all of the characters, minus Gogo and Umaro, in your party at one point or another. And that in the WOR, all characters are optional other than Celes, Edgar and Setzer, as you have to have them to attack Kefka's Tower.
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!
HOW CAN YOU LEAVE OUT SABIN? HE'S (possibly) THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE GAME!!!!!
HE WAS HOLDING A HOUSE UP IN TZEN!

No one FORCES you to go to Tzen.

Best way to destroy Doomgaze is to fly your airship around the air for a while, you'll bump into him eventually and we all know everytime he's hurt he can't recover his health. *dies*

Actually, I'd say Vanish+Doom is an even better method, assuming you don't mind cheating. Vanish+X-Zone prevents you from getting the Esper, so don't use that.
Ya you definatly want to get me, the Bahamut esper. Best esper there is. *noddles*

i meant the Doomgaze PERSON who disregarded my comment, NOT the Doomgaze monster in the game! See for yourself! *is surrounded by idiots*........*whoops, i didn't write that...

To point out the blindingly obvious, they were being sarcastic, ForeverZeroUltima.
Wow, you sure made yourself look superior. That was sarcasm, just so you know.
and just how do you know? *waits for a reply from one of the sub-non-idiots* [whatever that means]

How do I know what? That they were being sarcastic? Common sense, I'm assuming. And knock off the idiot comments, you just make yourself look stupid.
