    Default XP patch problems

I have the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 installed. I am running Windows XP, so I downloaded the XP patch and put the file in the same folder as the game. Then when I try to run the executable, it says "Final Fantasy VII is not currently installed on your system. This self-extracting archive only updates existing installations". Is there a way to fix this?

Did you follow the instructions of the patch correctly and fully? Maybe you need to reinstall FF7 again.

    Default no instructions

I did not find instructions for the patch. I downloaded it from this website, and there were no instructions provided. It is simply an archive file which I extracted to the same folder as the game. I'm not sure what else to do

If you formatted your computer (your C-harddrive, specifically) recently, and kept FF7 on another HD, the registry-entries for the game are history. Which means you'll need to reinstall. On another note, the installation won't overwrite the files already there, so it shouldn't take long.
