Fishing?

Is there a trick to fishing, all I seem to do is waste gil on pole after pole and more bait then I can stand.

The poles and lines keep breaking or I don't catch anything at all. When I first started I gained .2 exp in it. But since then zero.

And would becoming a member of smithing job effect the fishing job?

Any help would be welcomed.

Try gettin a tough rod and get a sabiki rig, then it usually is better. And no smithing dont affect it.
