Allright, I've found pretty much all of the characters that can be found, and am readying myself for the final dungeon. My level(s) are around 45-50. Would this be good enough? Will I be able to beat the end boss (without very many causalties)?

It depends almost more on your stats and what you've found than your levels. If you've increased each characters' stats(vigor, speed, magic, etc...) by using espers and have powerful weapons and/or magic like Illumina or Ultima, then the end isn't very hard at all. You basically need one powerful character in each party to carry the workload and you can let the others catch a free ride. Then when you get to the final battle just make sure that the powerful characters are in your party and you'll be okay.
But as a generic answer to your question, 45-60 is a good level for your characters to be at, as it depends upon what you have and their stats.
You could actually be lower than that and still be okay. The bosses would be more of a challenge if you stood at high 30s-low 40s, so you shouldn't have much of a problem.
Your main characters should know Fire 3, Bolt 3, Ice 3, Cure 3, Life 2 and Osmose. Keep your guys healthy during the battles and you should do fine.

Nintendo Power magazine actually recommended that all of your characters be at level 62 if I remember correctly. My personal favorite levels are LV. 99 terra in one team, LV 70+ mog in another and LV 80+ Shadow in the other. The other party members are in the 20s-30s and are just there to protect my fighter from doom and muddle.
Could I ask you guys a question regarding the expert version I'm making? What level do you guys think should be required to beat the game (for your main party)? I'm thinking 70.

I think 70 would be a pretty good number myself. I wouldn't mind if it were even higher really, but most people aren't as dedicated/crazy as I am, so 70 is probally a goo number.
I was thinking the same thing Atma Weapon. It would be cruel to force players to have 4 guys at level 99 with 9999 HP and 999 MP

If your characters average about level 65 the ending's a doddle.
a what?

Well, doesn't doodle mean something you scribble on a paper (usually while talking on the phone and need to occupy your hands with something)? Don't see what that has to do with the This-Boss-Is-So-Hard-I'm-Gonna-Put-My-Fist-Trough-The-Screen-Boss at the end of FF6. Really.

Put it this way. . . if you think Kefka is hard, you need to level up.
