Thread: Aeris *spoilers* YAY Plot!

  1. #1

Default Aeris is dead. YAY Plot!

personally, almost every game i have recently played i went after the end guy with very little flair. i was like, "ok, time to kill the end guy"

this wasn't the case with FF6 or FF7. Why was that you may ask. well, i'll tell you.

in FF6, they killed what seemed to me to be one of the coolest people in the game, general leo. in ff7, they killed supposedly cloud's love interest. both of these made me really mad at kefka and sephiroth.

imho, they should kill off more main characters. this might piss some people off but it would make it seem like the end boss battle was must more of a struggle. now, im not saying to kill everyone off except the main character so it is a one on one.

just kill a couple of the people, at least one that is relaly important, like aeris for example and maybe a less important one... like... cid. i have nothing against cid, but it would add more depth to the plot, cuz, holy crap, cid is dead, who's gonna fly? could add another sub-plot where you have to hire his arch-rivil poco to fly.

this is getting to long... discuss

Please don't put huge spoilers in the title of the thread, thx. ~m4tt

Can you imagine the number of "if you kill cheese weapon you can revive Cid" type rumors that'd come into play?
I'd have to disagree, I'm afraid. Killing off one character is okay in my book, it just adds that little something. It can't really be overused either, because you don't really know who will die until it happens. But when you go overboard things can become alittle depressing. Consider FFIV - FFIV SpoilersOne of the worst parts of the game, in my opinion, is when about four of the main characters die just to free up space in your character slots. I realise only one character actually died, but I didn't know that at the time, so I got really depressed that so many people died. Also I know I'm not the only one who got annoyed by it.

Plus Aeris' death was nice and memorable. If Cid had died then she'd be just part of the crowd of those who died, rather than the one who dies.
If Cait Sith had died the game would be much better though. ^_^

I will do this. Nothing in my life matters except this. No moment in my life exists except this moment. I am born in this moment, and if I fail, I will die in this moment.

*wonders what everyone sees in General Leo but well*

Euh... you might wanna edit the title. It's kind of a big spoiler, even for people just browsing the forums.

The problem with killing off and not killing off is that, while a kill might indeed get people's attention, do it too often and people will stop to get attached to characters. So it is good, if used in moderation. Killing TWO PC's in one game is a bit too much. (But FFVIII might have killed Seifer or Edea if you ask me, or perhaps even Quistis)

    *shakes head* Poor General Leo...

I personally didn't hate Sephiroth for (SPOILER)killing Aeris. It wasn't even him, it was one of his clones. He had a lot of issues in his life, I mean look who he had for a father.
And his mother abandoned him. He had a really messed up childhood. And when he was sane..he was nice. Look how he is to Cloud in the Kalm Flashback. He even automatically revives him in the battle with the Dragon if Cloud is hit.

Killing a character gives so much more empathy to the game. I wasn't really an Aeris fan until she died, and her sacrifice showed that she really was quite a cool person.
When a character who you have a close attatchment to dies, it also makes the game that more emotional. And it gives you a reason to fight, to fight for that person's death.

And then he came back, with a Southern accent. Hardly counts if he returns twice as annoying. :/

I personally think there should be spoilers for both FFVII and FFVI in the title, since I wouldn't want to know that Leo dies when I start playing FFVI.

    Anyway.

In FFV (SPOILER)the death of Galuf was almost the only thing that even made people hate the main villain, IMO. Sure, he (SPOILER)sucked towns into the Void but I was indifferent to most of those (except for (SPOILER)Batz's hometown and the Moogle Village) because they didn't get adequate development. (SPOILER)Galuf's death, though, gave you a nice and tangible reason to hate Exdeath.

In FFVI, there were plenty of reasons to hate Kefka, yes (even as you love him because of his classic lines). Leo's death, though, was paramount amongst those, 'cause as mentioned, he's such a freaking cool character. I ranted about him awhile back on my old old website, which I was never arsed to finish, here.

Cid dying would be trout, he's one of the best characters in FFVII. Aeris was certainly a decent character as well, but I doubt she'd be as revered if her sacrifice for the sake of Holy and all that basically ended up saving the day. She'd have been just another female character probably if she hadn't died, more or less. Cid is already a great character without dying. Killing off a character like that is crap.

Frankly I'd rather have Reeve in my party than Cait Sith, since Cait Sith is trout in battle, so I agree with the killing off Cait Sith bit. Reeve owned though.

I'd have to agree. If some people die, it adds depth to the story. But if too many people die it's like, whoop-de-doo! Another one bites the dust. It takes ALL the emotion out of the game. You're just waiting 4 someone else to die.

Killing a party member only helps the game once. In my first game of 7, Aeris was a primary party member. In my second game and all games thereafter, I didn't bother with her - it wasn't worth the effort. Thus, when Aeris died, it didn't just kill her for the duration of that game, but permanently. I can't be bothered to put effort into characters that I know won't last the game. This also applies to games like FF2 and 4, where temporary characters come and go untill the very end. I won't bother with anyone who won't be in my final party.
    Knock yourselves down.
