CENCORSHIP: Perfect or overdone?(Mostly older games)

This high pitched report is about my opinions of censorship in Final Fantasy games I welcome your opinions (I am going to put this on my WEB SITE when I finaly make it!) Oh and no posts saying "It was all Woolys fault!" when I already told you it wasn't!

Yes SWEARING should be taken out for kids (Cid from 7 managed to fit in a few swear words though!) but just "Bad" words are alright Replacing "Hell" with "Heck" is plain silly "Damn" is not a swear word AT ALL! so "Darn" is also a waste of time! and the less said about "Crap" becoming "Datt" the better!!

There are also parts of changing certain lines to altho most of the changes were quite memorible and funny ("How Dear you! You Howler!!") Some of them just didn't work! I also find it a bit weird that they conciderd "Final Heavan" to be cenordand and "Bum rush" to be ok! (BUM is a lot ruder than Heavan ok "Bum isn't a rude word but it is compered to heavan) Also in FF6 (And don't think I have a gudge! I like FF6 as much as the next guy!) The line:

SOLDIER: You'll be executed tomorrow, anyway. You know too much about our troop movements, after all. Have a nice last night alive!

Was Removed and replaced with

SOLDIER: I'd hate to wear shoes like THAT!

Come on! kids are going to have to learn about death sometime! why not now?


FF4: THE DEVOLOPER ROOM!

Yes! not many know this but there was actually a hidden room which gave you a chance to talk to some of the makers of FF4 but it got removed

ALL: PORNO!!

Yep! that's right the room was removed because of Porno (Note I hate Porno so don't think I'm sad for complaining) not porno it's self but REFRENCES to porno!

There was an Item called "Porno Book" that could be found in the devolopment room and when you selected it Cecil would read it (No you don't switch to Cecil's POV) and he's simply say "Hey I've gone blind!" (A joke to the roomers that porno made you blind) Any way I would have understood it if they removed the book or better still changed what it was and said (My freinds thought of renaming it the "Ending Script" and Cecil saying something like "What a shock!" or something) But no what do they do? THEY REMOVE THE WHOLE ROOM!! Now that anoyed me no end! One of the (Many) best parts of "Pokemon" was when you went to the "Programe Room" and if that had only 4 people just think how good the FF4 one would be Which had a lot more! Oh and while were on the subject of Porno a lesser known line from FF5:

Butz: P, P, Pl, Play, "Playboy"....Damn it's not here!

Was removed for resonable reasons (Though they could have done something better than the random letters they replaced it with!)

There is no Playboy in Japan, and while there could have been a line referring to some parallel Japanese adult magazine, it's probably just a joke that was added by the translators and didn't appear in the original script at all. J2e and Sky Render have certainly taken similar liberties with FFIV and FFVI, respectively.

The correct quote is actually "I'd hate to be in your shoes tomorrow!" which makes a whole lot more sense. But I thought your interpretation of the quote was pretty funny, to say the least.

Say... didn't Square go back and fix FF4 to make it harder and take out all the censorship when they remade it for FF Chronicles?_?

Yeah.. I havn't played FF4 yet... or any other old one, except FF6, which I'm almost finished with. It's my goal to finish all the games before the end of this coming summer

FF4 was re-translated for Chronicals. They took the rom of "hardtype" as it's called and gave it a new translation that supposedly better matches the original one. It has the pr0n mag and the developer's room and everything. You can check out squenix's site if you want to see some examples of the differences. As far as I know, the names are unchanged from the US version (damnit). As far as censorship goes... I'm a staunch opponent of censorship. I am, however, in favor of ratings. I do not blame Square (read: WOOLSEY WAS TEH FRAMMD!!!1) for the censorship in the games they made for the Nintendo systems. However, the OTHER changes are completely their fault. ACHOOOO!!!

Actually, the term "bum rush" has been used for who-knows-how-long as reference to a sort of melee attack. It's not like there was an "ass kicking" blitz or something.

And the Developer's room wasn't in FF2US, but was in FF4 in Chronicles. So I seriously doubt they took the entire room out only because of the one thing--which, by the way, was "smut".
