Who is Zanar?

At the very beginning of the game in Zanarkand, as Tidus is running along the long walkway toward the blitzball stadium there is a man's voice telling a story. He calls himself Zanar, but we never hear of him again for the rest of the game. Who exactly is he?

Zanar? I don't remember a Zanar. All I remember is Tidus whinning and complaining about how much his dad sucks. I'll have to listen again. *sigh*

I believe he was the blitzball commentator for the evening.

If I am not mistaken he was running away from home when he heard about Jecht's death.

I'm pretty sure he was just in there to give the feeling of a sports event.

I agree with Nova Dragon. But, for a while, I did think that Zanar was Tidus' grandfather or grandson, but I hadn't played through the game at that point so... Now that I'm finished I realize that it was a stupid thing to think.
