Everyday I wish that I could be the one, for you...
Sector 7 is where Tifa and Avalanche reside (hence why her bar is called Seventh Heaven).
6th Sector is the one with Wall Market, Don Corneo's house, and where Aeris lives.
Actually, I think 6th and 7th are the only sectors you visit in this game.
ARGUMENT FROM GUITAR MASTERY
(1) Eric Clapton is God.
(2) Therefore, God exists.
Sector 1
You begin the game in this sector. It's never revisited after the destruction of the reactor.
Sector 7
This is where 7th Heaven and AVALANCHE's headquarters are stationed before, again, everything gets destroyed.
Sector 5
This is where the second reactor bombing was supposed to take place. The church, Aeris's house, the infamous pipe, and the exit to Midgar lie in the slums below.
Sector 6
A breach in the wall that contains Sector 5 allows passage into this sector; it also possesses a (impassible) gate and a passage through the sewers to Sector 7. It's the only officially "incomplete" sector left in the city (according to the model found in Shin-Ra Tower), and naturally, it's heavily under construction; the only thriving part of it is the Wall Market, where the Don reigns with a well-lubricated fist.
Sector 8
This is where the party assembles during the final assault against Shin-Ra and the Sister Ray. Shin-Ra Tower can be accessed from its train tunnels, but it doesn't actually below to this or any other sectors, since it stands in the city's center.
The dead centre of Midgar, where the Shinra tower stands, is known as "Sector 0".
In the flashback where (SPOILER)Cloud witnesses Zack's death and when he first arrives in Midgar, you can see the sprawling rubble and components being assembled to make Sector 6.
