Mine would personally have to be:
Cloud - 1 he is just so cool and 2 he is a great fighter
Zidane for his cool overdrives
Vivi for his black magic
Oh and yuna for the healing
So come on rules are party of 4 ( no sephiroth)

Yuna or Garnet to summon and heal, either one would do really...
Rikku cos I wuv her and she can pinch things and help out the others

Garnet for her summons(mainly Bahamut and that ultimate summon) and her healing abilities
Tidus for Blitz Ace

I agree with Flying Mullet. Characters of other FF games are rather limited compared to those of FFVI. If I had to choose the 4 most effective party members they would be:

Edgar
Celes
Cyan

If I had to choose based on coolness then:

Sephiroth (with the planet destoying nonsense summon he has)

Ninja class FF3 with 99 shurikens Masamune and Excalaber (I think he could use that)
