I wanna play Half-Life online but whenever I find a server (which who's name is listed by IP address, not game name) and try to join it I get disconnected and Half-Life closes on me. How exactly can I remedy this?

I wanna play Half-Life online but whenever I find a server (which who's name is listed by IP address, not game name) and try to join it I get disconnected and Half-Life closes on me. How exactly can I remedy this?
Obvious solutions, but I'm stabbing in the dark here:
1) Check that the server you're trying to connect to isn't a private server.
2) Sort your firewall out - it will be a pain when trying to play online games.
That's all I can think of. Sorry.

No none of the servers are private. And I took down my firewall right when I connect to a server for an online game I get an error message saying HalfLife has performed an error and needs to close.

Joke's on you Kane, I bught it and everything. Internet multiplayer just wont work.
