Does anyone know why Maduin was chosen to be (SPOILER) Terra's father?
Does Maduin have any other significant plot contribution?
Did they pick him to explain why Terra can use fire, ice, and bolt magic?
Or did they just pick him out of a hat?
Thoughts?

Because Carbuncle would have worked. Or Ramuh. Or Ifrit. Or Crusader. Or Odin/Raiden (ooh, that would have been interesting...)
Maybe it's because Maduin was the most "human".

No, he does seem the most human. Carbuncle, Bismarck, and the like are too bestial. Phantom is too generic. Efreet couldn't have been the father unless Shiva was the mother, since those two are always paired. Crusader, Lahmu (Ramuh), and so on already have their little subplots.
Besides, I don't think they made all the Phantom Beasts and then chose the father out of the lineup. Rather, I think they made Madin as a character and then decided to make it possible to acquire his Magicite.

She can't use ice, fire, and bolt, only fire. Well, she can just as anybody else can, but she doesn't automatically learn them--you know what I mean.
And I agree, Maduin seemed the most human. And he is tri-elemental, as if to say that she is strong in all aspects instead of just one, like if they had used Ifrit or Ramuh as her father.
It would have made the game 10 times better if Bismark had been her father.
100 times better if it were not Bismark, but actually Biz Markee.
