Ok I am at a point that the next step in the sphere grid is a level 1 lock. I have the sphere but it won't let me into that position to use it. Why?

did you move your char. onto the node next to the lock and then go into the menu and use a lv.1 lock to unlock it? if its unlocked, itll be just an empty node..

so I have to unlock the empty node before it, I don't actually try to "use" the node that says lvl1
No no, look, you have to be on a node that's right beside the locked one. This is where you can select to use the Lvl. 1 sphere, in which the locked node will become an empty node, allowing you to pass.
