You always defeat Lavos before he's done any real damage, no matter what time you defeat him in. If you were to defeat him after he's done damage, than what's the point of defeating him? The only difference in defeating him in 12,000 as opposed to 1999 is the amount of life he's sucked from the planet, but he does that so slowly it probably doesnt make much of a difference. The only time defeating Lavos would be worthless is after he destroys the planet, but that's impossible anyway.

i would like to add, that, even if you DID want to fight lavos after everything is destroyed, you can't anyway! because if you go to 2300 AD and get on the black omen, Queen zeal talks dirty to you for a moment, then the door seals shut, prohibiting you to go further and destroy lavos.

I'll do the same. I just can't understand what happened in CC. The 2nd part of CC seemed way too rushed anyway, and it's almost as if Square got too tired to explain the storyline properly. Of course, it could be that even Square doesn't understand CC's storyline fully.

Okay....it has been a few days since I entered this thread....so. I was looking for more of a yes or no answer at this point as I do understand the majority of the games pretty damn well. I just want to make sure I am not screwing anything up(I am about to replay though the game also...or xenogears...** I can't decide).

And of course as always The Aero-Dalton Imperial is an awesome name

Well, I think the best thing is not to think about it too much, but if you play through several of the endings in CT it makes a little more sense, even though the endings themselves are not connected. Each of them seems to give you a little more info.
