The Cargo Ship that travels from Costa del Sol (the golden world) to Junon (the town that faded away).

Very nice reasoning; I could easily have written the riddle with that in mind. But "golden world" and "town that faded away" don't refer to Costa del Sol or Junon. Keep trying!

By the way, I've liked the answers I've seen so far from everyone. Even if they weren't what I had in mind, it's good to see the riddle has stimulated some creative thinking.

Could it be President Shinra? The 'golden world' could be his vision of Neo-Midgar and the 'town that faded away' could be Midgar as it stands now.

You're starting to get a little too abstract. "Golden world" refers to what I believe to be its most apparent meaning.

Ok, time to start narrowing this down. Three guesses so far, here comes number four, so we've narrowed it down from 1,000,000,000 to 9,999,996!

Golden World = Promised Land = Lifestream
Town that faded away = Mideel

No? Ok, let's try one of the other 9,999,995 possible answers.

The link between whatever the Golden Land might be and whatever the Town That Faded is -- in one form or another, due to them being the link between everything else in the game -- Shin-Ra. It doesn't matter what the Golden Land or the Town That Faded away is, PROVE ME WRONG. ::whistles::

So we're at 9,999,994 possible answers now. Who's next?

Answer: You get a new character in both places, that is the link between the two.

Golden World = Gold Saucer = new character - Cait Sith
Town that faded away = Nibelheim (fire) = new character - Vincent

Actually, Shinra can't be used as a direct link here, although Shinra was certainly 'involved' in one half of the riddle.

The Lifestream and Mideel are not what the riddle refers to.

Wow, I never intended for the riddle to be this difficult. I guess the language is ambiguous, but that's what I'm hoping you will all eventually interpret. For the record, the initial guess by Weimar Pluto Knight VII seems closest to one of the three answers.

EDIT: Luthien, you posted while I was making a response of my own. You correctly interpreted "golden world" (yes, it is the Gold Saucer; it was meant to be relatively apparent). However, the "town that faded away" is not Nibelheim. Keep trying!

So the Ropeway Station is the closest guess, and it's something to do with the Gold Saucer...so it's got to be the carriage that takes you from Corel to the Gold Saucer.

Never mind the initial edit (which I took out). I read something wrong. Squall is still very close.
