Thread: FF7 riddles

Hello, Chocobilly. Welcome to the FFVII riddles thread.

Cousin should be construed as something metaphorical. If you know what the answer is, you can figure out what the metaphorical cousin might be.

Also, Chocobilly made an obvious guess. See how PA guessed? You need to think like that. Also you ignored my hint where I defined 'master' for you. The first line should help you figure out what is so unusual about the answer. Unfortunately, PA misconstrued the definition of 'play.' What else could 'play' mean?

Okay, in that case I go with Aeris' theme. Master referring to musician, and three referring I guess to three times that it is played during the game (I can't remember if that's true or not). The second time would therefore be at the end of disc one. I don't know whether the last line refers to the non-orchestral version, or possibly if I remember rightly, a similar song played during the opera scene in FFVI.

I say what I think. If you disagree, then that is up to you.

    Congrats, PA! Your turn.

The third line was talking about Aeris's other theme, otherwise known as Flowers Blooming in the Church, I think. It plays before the one that plays during Aeris's death, and it's just, I guess, a calmer version. Not really a very emotional song.

Yes, it does play three times. Once during Elmyra's flashbacks, again at Aeris's death, and finally shortly before the end of Disc 2. The party reminisces about Aeris a bit, and Cloud wants everyone to forget her. Then, Aeris's theme fades out rather quickly to be replaced by the Highwind theme that keeps playing until you insert Disc 3.

Um, doesn't Aeris' theme play during the FMV of the escape from the Crater?

You mean on Disc 2? No music plays during that FMV, until the very end, and the music there is not really a song. Just a dissonant chord.

EDIT: Oh, you mean during the ending? It features Aeris's. . .uh, motif in that song, but the name of the song is World Crisis.

Yeah, I meant during the ending. Yes, the song is called World Crisis, but it definitely has Aeris' theme in it.

Well, the answer is the song called Aeris's Theme or earisunotema, and what you hear in World Crisis is not a song, but more like a motif or even a theme itself, but it's not a song. I mean, it's not a song until you play the whole track. The 'master' did derive that part of the song from Aeris's theme, though, much like he does later several times in the piece. "Baaaa ba ba diiii daaa!"

Yeah, I didn't think of that, but it wasn't enough of a confusion to stop PA from solving the riddle.

Oh, PA, since we solved your other riddle, do you want to start writing new ones now? Or, do you want someone else to write one?

Okay I guess I should start another one going, but I have way too much on my mind to write it now. If I can I'll post one tomorrow, but someone else go for now. By the way, nice way to mix up the types of riddles Weimar .

My music appreciation professor told us that...

    - a motif is usually an incomplete melodic idea around two to ten notes long and stands for a specific person, thing, or idea. (i.e., think the five descending notes in Phantom of the Opera - that's the Phantom's motif)

    - a theme is usually a complete melodic idea that also stands for a specific person, thing or idea. (think the entire title song from Phantom of the Opera - it's repeated, both with and without words, many times throughout the whole musical)

    - a song is by definition something which is sung. Instrumental music is called either by the name of what it actually is (a symphony, a sonata, etc.) or simply a "piece."

A little off topic I know, but interesting nonetheless. So I would say that Aeris' motif appears in World Crisis, cause if I remember correctly it's only the first ten notes or so, and not a complete melodic idea.
    "Ipso, facto, meeny moe...MAGICO!!!"

Hmm, I didn't know a song had to be sung. I have heard the term, "piece" before, actually. So, the answer was the piece named Aeris's Theme. Not Aeris's theme or Aeris's motif, or whatever that is also in what I called the answer's cousin, or whatever is in World Crisis, either.
