Though I'm devoid of light. (the Weapon's orignal purpose is to protect the planet from jenova and destroy her, but before they could be used the Cetra had already destroyed her. They then went into hibernation. But Sephiroth intervened and managed to wake and control them. therefore they are originally the protector of hope but they have no light/goodness in them as they are being controlled by evil at the current time)

A phrase that I stand by no longer. (I believe this means the person has given up on the meaning of that phrase and feels that there is no point. or as someone else said, they are possibly dead. So I think that Weapon fits with this as he dies during the process of fighting with Rufus and his almighty mako cannon <3)
