Actually this is it:
You DO have to hit your character(or in some way get them below 154 HP). Then equip the damaged character with the Cat's Bell item(preferably in the Highwind) and slowly walk around(you gain 2 HP per step since it goes only on even numbers) until you get to 154 HP. Then cast Demi 2 on a character so he/she'll have 77 HP. I think you can guess from there.
