How the HECK do those guns for NES work (you know... the duckhunt one). There's no lazers involved, it was too early for that. It's got a cord that goes to the machine.... how does it know where you're pointing?

When you pull the trigger, the screen flashes. When it flashes, the ducks (in the case of Duck Hunt) are replaced with a colored box. The rest of the screen becomes white. So the gun just picks up the different color when it flashes.
But how does it "pick up"?
I don't think you're actually supposed to answer.
there are real ducks in your television and when you shoot them they die. you murderer.
The whole screen is coded with 0's and 1s covered coded with coloured tiles. The targest that your ment to shoot at are 1s while everything else is 0s. Only the gun can see 1s and 0s when it fires. I think thats how it works.
Helpful Hsu, but I still don't understand how the NES knows the angle that I'm holding the gun... how it knows I'm pointing to the upper right side. I would understand if it was cordless and used magic lazers, but...
I think it ju st takes a picture of where your pointing or whatever it does. So it sees just where you point not the entire screen.
There's probally gnomes or fairies or something in the gun. And when you shoot it just guesses if you hit or not. I really hate those fairies too, they always want presents or else they guess I missed ughhh darn fairies I'll get them one of these days.
