What's wrong with my modem or something :(

My modem makes loud sounds sometimes, but right now it's so loud it's almost hurting my ears. I can't hear my music over it even when the volume is up to 3. I'm going to cry or something, please tell me I won't die.

Is it making noises all the time or just when you dial up? Most modems have a setting for how loud the modem is when it dials up, and it can usually be muted too.

Hmm, the volume setting on the modem is the only thing tha tI can think of.

I say it's a virus. I say someone has installed a backdoor trojan on your computer and is turning your modem voolume up or making your cd drive spin lots.

Yes eestlic, it may have something to do with the 10 viruses and trojans that are being sent to me every hour by bitter and hateful people from the internet.

Run a virus scanner then?

Then make sure the modem volume is turned down afterwards

I am running it every 15 minutes. :) It's loudest while I am, actually.

Where is the volume for a modem, anyway? I have a Dell Dimension 8200 btw.
