B. Cecil! No matter whether he's a Dark Knight or (SPOILER)a Paladin, I'm sure he can always take that old fart down!

cloud is overrated.

#1. he started the whiny, angst-ridden/asshole protagonist trend that carried over in future ff games. (sure, cecil and terra had their own angst, but they never whined about it). cloud himself wasn't actually that bad, but squall and tidus certainly were. i swear if tidus asks one more pointless question, i'm going to smash the forking tv screen in.

#2. he spends half the game (SPOILER)lying about who he is. maybe it's not a conscious lie because his memory's obviously been tampered with, but it seriously devalues his worth as a character. it might make him somewhat more human, but kain has the "human" thing going about him too, and it's done without the blatantly unidentifiable (to a lot of people) trait of having his memory screwed with.

kain is badass. not only does he have the ridiculously twisted past that he never once complains about, but #1. he's a dragoon, and dragoons own quite possibly every other character class out there, and #2. he isn't all flowers and goodness. he has jealousy and evil in him, and the story explores that very well. not only that, but his ending kicked ass.

aeris is somewhat overrated. she's not a bad character, but she's not the perfect goddess a lot of people make her out to be. bartz, on the other hand, is a ing pimp. how could you vote against a pimp? it's just wrong.

i don't really care about the other matchups. actually strago doesn't deserve to advance, but he's not going to.

too many people haven't played ffiv and ffv. also, too many people vote for ffvii characters just because they're ffvii characters. the fact that vincent made it to the last battle of the previous round was a travesty.

How do you know Kain has such a twisted past? I don't remember much background given on him during the game. Cloud, however, is the most in-depth done character in all of Final Fantasy. Plus Omnislash can beat just about anything Kain can dish out.

It's not given in the game, it's given in the Japanese-only "Foundation Guide" that Square released awhile back. Kain's father's last wish was for him to become a Dragon Knight like him and restore the Highwind clan's honour. At some point, he began dating Rosa; when faced with the choice to become a Dark Knight, he had to decline, even though he wanted to bring honour to Baron. While he was away for training, Rosa took up with Cecil. Who was his best friend.

Hence, tortured past.
