Ava-tar vs. Av-a-ta

I always say "av-a-ta" (with the stress on the a) but Lindz says it's "aver-tar" (which sounds like "abbatoir") =(

I say it a-va-tar. Sheesh. If I'm thinking Finnish, in English I'd guess it'd go.. A-va-tá, sans r.

I'd say the second is closer to correct, since the stress is on the first and last syllables, not the middle.
