All that is true. However, if you don't care, then the similiarities mean nothing, and you can just take Skies for the great game it is. I still think FF7 is better, but for the 60+ hours I played Skies my first time, I thought it was one of my top 10 RPGs, easily. Easy to get attached to the characters.
Why should anyone care that it does rip off FFVII in some parts? It's not like Square patented all these ideas. One should just enjoy the over 60 hours of game play, and try to complete the large side quest list. I barely got all the discoveries without loosing my mind ><
My 2nd favourite RPG of all time (next to FFIX)
