I'm playing through for the second time and I missed this one last time, and I just tried it and it seems, frankly, wank.. Is there actually any point in it whatsoever!?

Hmmm, I've been experimenting more and each girl gets a different pet it would seem, Rikku's is terrible (who i first used it for) and Yuna's seems quite good..
Any experienced Trainers wanna enlighten me further?
Trainer is a good mix between attacking and another ability with each girl. Yuna can attack and use attack magic. Rikku can attack and steal. Paine can attack and heal. Each has rather decent stats. But the best thing about Trainer is that all three learn HP Stroll and MP Stroll. MP Stroll is extremely helpfull because Ethers are somewhat rare in this game.

Talk to Kimahri twice when you visit Mt Gagazet during chapter one; when you speak to him for the second time, choose the middle option - it's a little harsh, but in chapter 3 he'll reward your 'tough love' with the Trainer dressphere.
