I've already exhausted my lust for FF games. I don't imagine they will do much else unless they have a TOTALLY new engine or something more extravagent. The idea of another band of misfits saving the world for another thirty times doesn't really appeal to me.

So... no plans for school, a job, marriage, or kids until you're thirty? Just Final Fantasy?

Well, just as long as you don't have to sell your PS2 for food, you should be fine.

I've actually been incorperating final fantasy with school and the like, breaking down why the games appeal to us, and why perhaps they will one day represent the current state of our culture. It's interesting to think that one day we'll be defined by the GAMES we played.

    Take care all.

Umm... maybe you do need to grow up. I think it's pretty sad when someone has to sell his posessions just to feed himself.

I'm hoping they don't get to the 'flogging a dead horse' stage. A nice, well-written, epic ending would bring it to a comfortable close, for me. Imagine it, the last scene of the last FF ever - the immortal Crystal Theme humming in the background, as the sun sets over a cliff by the sea, where weary heroes reflect on their struggles, losses and experiences... something like that, a scene that encapsulates everything the series has been about since its inception.

If they just drag it out for ever and ever, the games will become less unique and more 'photocopied', as the writers - talented as they are - simply run out of ideas. Refreshing the creative talent pool with new artists would add a bit of longevity, but it'd only delay the inevitable. If they end on a strong note and leave the gamers satisfied but wanting more, then they've won; if the series just grinds down to an anticlimactic fizzle, then they've lost. Just like TV sitcoms - Fawlty Towers only had about eight episodes, Friends had hundreds; but no-one's going to look back fondly on every episode of Friends that was ever made. With a series that's run too long, all the installments just blend into a vague and indistinguishable fog.

(No offence intended to Friends fans, that was just an attempt at illustrating my point.)

Not sure if/when my own FF interest will wane; the mature, deep stories such as VII's should remain pretty timeless, but if Square-Enix falls into the trap of trying to cater to a particular demographic, then they're doomed. FFIX was clearly aimed at capturing a child audience, with its rushed and cartoony designs; FFX-2 is a pretty blatantly "late teen" game. Now, I thoroughly enjoy both of those games, but if you compare them to FFVII, you might see what I mean - VII isn't trying to capture 'one audience', its themes and charcters are diverse and encompass a wide range of ideas and experiences. Good way to continue the series, I think.
