ARGUMENT FROM GUITAR MASTERY
(1) Eric Clapton is God.
(2) Therefore, God exists.
"This... LION of yours... does it have a name?"
"Of course. My buns"
"Hmm, so that's what it's called..."
OMG! I just realized that the ring's name and Ulti's GF's name are the same! OMG, OMG, OMG! R=U is true! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit by Kishi: Shup.
Squall's ring doesn't have a name. The winged lion carved on his ring has the same name as Ultimecia's GF because they are the same creature.
Oh. Thanks, Big D. I was getting really worried that all my anti-R=U campaigning was in vain.
*Is confused by Ansem*
D I'm not sure it's that cut and dried. Even taking the most common anti-R=U arguement I've heard, the GF version was created by Ultimecia to throw Squall (I really dislike that arguement), I don't think Squall's description really matches Ulty's.
I say what I think. If you disagree, then that is up to you.
A leonine, winged creature and a very powerful GF. That's what Squall believes Greiver is, and what Griever turns out to be...
I can't remember the last battle that well, I always replay till late disc three unless I have a reason to go on, but I don't remember Griever looking particularly like something Squall would idolise. More like a twisted version of his idea.

I thought Griever looked kind of odd, too - grey and red rather than typical 'lion' colours, but meh... The basic shape resembles the image of Griever on the revolver's blade.
I, for some odd reason or another, always thought that Ultimecia summoned Griever off of Squall's ring/pendant. Diablos is obtained by using an item, I guess I kinda figured it worked the same way, and when she summons Griever, the only place you've encountered him before is on Squall's equipment. I guess somehow it just seemed to me that Griever was contained in the ring without Squall knowing it. That's just another one of my cracked out thoughts though. I doubt it's what the designers intended.
The only thing I can add is the fact that Squall's ring matches his Gunblade as they both have the Greiver imprinted on.
Thats pretty much it, the only reason it was really in the game was because they needed something material wise to link Rinoa and Squall together.
After all this time, my 60 by 60 avatar site still lives...Clicky?
Or maybe its like one of those really popular symbols like the mermaid on your mud guards on your car.
Rinoa, like a child in love, asks squall what the name of his "cute" lil lion was. Same for them pewter dragon rings you can buy, no real names but someone asks you the name and to be nice you give it a name.
What did you name your furbie, or your gigapet?
School Sucks, Go Work.
I named a teddy bear after the illustrator Bill Ward, does that count?
