I recently installed MSN Messenger, and since then it takes over a minute to open up Outlook Express. Normally it only takes a few seconds. Could the problem be related to that? Or could it be that Outlook Express just sucks?

I think MSN can interact with OE to show your MSN contact list inside OE (so you can directly mail them, I think). Look in the options if there isn't an option to disable it, that might be what slows your OE down.
And then there is Death
It does suck. The problem probably is related. MSN Messenger checks your Hotmail inbox everytime you sign in.

I don't use Outlook for Hotmail though, it's for my cox@home mail. I'll try out eudora though.

My Outlook used to do that for a while, but it all started after I did a Window Update. It lasted up until I did another Windows Update and then it was okay again.

It's been a while since Windows asked me to update, so we'll see. Eudora seems to work nicely.
