I grew up with the Next Generation. Data was my favorite character, and several times in my childhood I tried imitating him. Wesley was part of what inspired me to attend the Air Force Academy. Geordi partially inspired me to go into engineering. I had nightmares as a child after I saw Picard being turned into Locutus. My little brother and I always used to make-believe that we were characters on the show, and I still sometimes day-dream about being at the helm of the Enterprise. I can honestly say that a TV show had a significant effect on my childhood, and the years afterwards.

Yeah, I'd have to say it reached its prime right after Gene Roddenberry died. He really was the brains behind the show.
