I have DSL and I get horrible download speeds but I blame that on a router and 50 feet of cable running to my room. That would probably do it.

Why can't I just get a straight up fiber connection? MAKE THE LEAP ALREADY!!!

I have hit over a megabyte per second with my college network (albeit during the holidays). I don't know what I'll do when I leave here....

You can. It's called SONET, and it can be yours for only $18,000 per month.

I've had cable for three years, but I want DSL after what Bleys said... I only download big files at night when my dad's asleep, 'cos he hates how it slows him down when he's online.

Isn't SONET military only? Or do some insanely upper up corporations have it?

Okay let's compare specs. I have DieSeL. I download at 180KB/s (no uploading), or I can upload at 80-90KB/s (no downloading)

    you?

Well if you're sharing your cable or DSL line through a router, it'll still slow others down when you're downloading big files. Unless you get different accounts, it'll still be one line for your house and it being shared through the router. =o

True, but so what? The speed's still faster than Cable. In the two-three years I've had cable I've never uploaded at 80, and I've rarely downloaded faster than 180 (got speeds of 200 downloading netscape, for example).

So nyahh. DieSeL is better the majority of the time.

    T3 is better than both

I don't know how fast T3 is, but when I had a T1 I uploaded and downloaded at 100 KB/s. If T3 = 3x as fast, then wow, yes it is.

But a T line costs what, a grand a month?

    4grand!
I'm not spending that much on a connection a month no matter how fast it is. Well, if it can teleport me places I might consider it.

No, I think nobody has it just because nobody can afford it. I've seen hosting resellers boasting a SONET OC3 connection.

I use cable. It costs 50 dollars a month about, I think.
